St Mary’s Charitable Trust was established in 2004 by Fr Dominic Chukka who was born in India and has been working as a Catholic Priest in England since 1993 within the Archdiocese of Birmingham.
The charity has grown from humble beginnings after Fr Dominics brother Raj Chukka the Director of St Mary’s in India and previously a head teacher for a government school in Eluru recognised the struggle for so many children below the poverty line and so with the support of his wife and family sought to reach out to these children and their families bringing education to the homes and villages of the children who weren’t attending school.
Following the sad and early death of Fr Dominic and Raj’s brother; Bosco at just 27 years old, they felt that more should be done for these children and so Fr Dominic set up our UK based charity to raise the money needed to provide the education, safety, security and a home for so many needy children in this area of India that otherwise wouldn’t receive it.
And now to the present day with the support of UK based sponsors, benefactors and donations, St Mary’s Trust owns its own land on which is built a boarding home that can house up to 100 children in need and a school for children in the home and day visitors, It is also because of these projects that we are able to provide jobs for teachers, carers, cooks, drivers and others in the area, as well as always looking at other needs and projects that can help.
Raj Chukka is the Principle of St Mary’s. He lives at the site along with his family and takes responsibility for the daily running of the trust and school in India.
